Cocoa Runners is an eCommerce startup specialising in subscription boxes for artisan chocolate.
I was asked by the founding team shortly after their launch in 2014 to build their email communications. Time was of the essence, as the business required designs and templates for drip campaigns as well as weekly newsletters shortly after launch. I worked with the founders and the Marketing team to establish which widgets the emails would require.
Using Cocoa Runners' style guide and product photography, I sketched some ideas for a boilerplate template that could be used as a basis for all campaigns. From here, I began creating the boilerplate in Mailchimp, working fist on the header and footer and body styling. I then built a series of reusable snippets that could be swapped in and out of different campaigns.
The template needed to undergo rigorous testing before it could be used, in order to ensure it would work across all email clients and devices. My tool of choice for this has always been Litmus. Once the template was bulletproof, the drip campaigns were set up using Mailchimp Automation (welcome and subscriber conversion emails), and a master newsletter template was created for the Marketing team to use.
